Why a wound may develop

Diabetes can damage nerves, reducing the ability to feel a blister or injury. Reduced blood flow can make healing more difficult. Pressure, foot shape and infection can also affect the wound.

A wound may not be painful

Reduced sensation means that a serious wound may cause little pain. A lack of pain does not mean the wound is safe to leave untreated.

What an assessment involves

Your team may assess the wound, circulation, sensation, infection and pressure on the foot. They will also review your overall health and current treatment.
