Pressure on the wound
Repeated pressure can disturb healing. Offloading means reducing pressure with a device or another approach chosen by your team.
Circulation and infection
Reduced blood flow and infection can interfere with healing. Vascular assessment and infection management may be needed alongside wound care.
The wider picture
Blood glucose, nutrition, kidney disease, smoking and other health factors can influence recovery. A difficult wound is not a personal failure.
Ask for a review of the plan
Ask which factors have been assessed, how progress is being measured and whether input from a multidisciplinary diabetic-foot team is needed.
